Caswell&Dainow undertook this back land development in Thornton Heath, South London as a joint venture with the landowner. We successfully achieved planning for a two-bed home on what was an unused and overgrown rear garden of a house that had been converted to flats.

The form is pulled into two blocks breaking down the massing and creating two courtyard areas. Splitting the house into sleeping and living areas, the courtyards offer privacy yet draw light into the house from all angles with no overlooking.

The landowner was delighted with the planner’s response and how within 12 months we had increased the value of an unutilized piece of land by 500%.
